Golfers believe their chances of protecting the publicly-owned course at Gordon from becoming a regional park have improved after resolving financial issues.
The Gordon Golf Club received letters from Ku-ring-gai Council’s lawyers last year over outstanding payments.
The club’s then-general manager believed the demands were a precursor to an early lease termination.
A council resolution from 2016 states the 18-hole course be converted to a regional park once the lease expires in 2023.
The park concept will not be discussed until the lease expires.
Councils across Australia have examined ways of reusing their golf courses to provide for sports with more participants.
The club has about 900 golf and social members.
