Cricket in Canberra falls victim to the coronavirus pandemic

Australia’s three-game one-day international series against New Zealand has been postponed until the 2021-22 season, with a one-off Test against Afghanistan pushed back with it.

Manuka Oval was slated to host a 50-over clash between Australia and New Zealand on January 29, with the future of the contest now up in the air.

Cricket Australia says its is confident it will find a suitable window for each postponed match to be played by 2023 at the latest as officials prepare for a coronavirus domino effect to wreak havoc on the season ahead.

It is a cruel blow for Canberra after the capital lost its marquee event for the summer – a Twenty20 World Cup warm-up match between international powerhouses Australia and India.
