Improvements to Euroa’s Friendlies Oval will soon start after $100000 from the Victorian Government was received in January.
Upgrades to the oval, which is also a major component of the town’s northern entrance, include a new surface, widening and a slight lengthening of the oval, a new watering system, a new white picket fence and the installation of three turf wickets.
Friendlies Oval committee member and one of the project’s initiators Rob Asquith said the community had been generous in supporting the project.
‘‘It is exciting in several ways; not only is it going to be a magnificent sporting ground for our community, but it will be a beautification point from the northern side of Euroa with the lovely white picket fencing,’’ he said.
The $210000 upgrade will be funded through the grant, with more than $50000 raised by the Friendlies Oval Committee and $50000 from council.
