Manuka Oval will host a Sheffield Shield clash in the 2018/19 season as Cricket Australia announced the new domestic schedule with a number of big events heading to the nation’s capital.

Australian cricket heavyweights NSW will face defending champions Queensland at Manuka Oval in November, which has been billed as the “perfect dress rehearsal” for the inaugural men’s test match by Cricket ACT’s High-Performance GM James Allsopp.

“The fixture in itself, defending champions Queensland versus a proud and what is sure to be very determined NSW side led by newly appointed coach Phil Jacques, is sure to be a brilliant spectacle,” Mr Allsopp said.

“The 2018/19 summer is, without doubt, the biggest cricket season we have ever had. There has never been a more exciting time to be an aspiring cricketer, involved in the game in some capacity, or simply a cricket lover in Canberra heading into the summer months.”

Canberra will also host the 2018 Under-15’s Female National Championships from 20-26 February, which will feature the county’s most talented up and coming female cricketers.

Cricket Australia has also announced big changes in the Futures League, with a T20 component added to the traditional four-day format to provide red and white ball cricket to the development league.

Mr Allsopp said the new T20 format in the Futures League can provide Big Bash opportunities for ACT’s promising youngsters.

“The Twenty20 game is growing and evolving at a rapid rate and the Toyota Futures League Twenty20 competition will provide ACT and NSW’s most promising cricketers with the opportunity to showcase their skills against talented players from throughout the country,” he said.

“I have no doubt what so ever that success and strong performances in this tournament will lead to Big Bash opportunities the following Summer as franchise talent managers will watch this tournament with great interest.”
