Plans to revitalise the sprawling Bankstown Golf Course, which includes about 150 self-contained seniors dwellings and a new club house at Milperra have been revealed.
Bankstown Golf Club has lodged the initial paper work with the Department of Planning and Environment to build a large seniors housing complex, spanning four buildings.
Under the proposal, the 18-hole course will be retained and a new clubhouse will be built.
A swimming pool is also planned and will be open to the public.
Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Wally Mehanna, gave his backing for the proposal.
“I absolutely support the proposal because the club has to think of other ways to generate income and keep their golf activities going,” Mr Mehanna told The Express.
“This is a good thing for the area and the club has definitely done its research on the need for seniors housing.
“You can be sure they will offer quality accommodation with the golf course adding to the attraction.”
David Renehan, the general manager of the Bankstown Golf Club, said he could not comment because the proposal had not been approved.
