After months of controversy, the struggling Avondale Bowling Club is up for sale.

The multi-million dollar property in Auckland has been put up for tender on auction website TradeMe after club members voted to sell the property in September.

Avondale Bowling Club in West Auckland was now up for sale on TradeMe.

Auckland Bowling Club general manager Phil Vyver said it was unfortunate the club had got into this situation.

“The sale is making the best of the situation the club finds itself in,” Vyver said.

Vyver was unwilling to be drawn on the potential sale price. However, the 6701sq m land was being billed as an opportunity for private developers.

Auckland Council valued the land at $2.8 million.

The decision to sell the land came after council declined to grant the club a new liquor license in August, eliminating a potential source of revenue for the club.

Only one other club in Auckland had recently faced significant restructure, said Vyver.

The Hillsboro Bowls Club merged with the Onehunga Bowling club in August 2017, with club management blaming financial issues for the decision.
