In a slight setback to local golfers, Upper Hunter Shire Council is expecting to take management of the new Scone course in late May.
The contractors building the layout are still completing final grow-in works.
But, council expects to take management of the course in the next few weeks, and host an official opening in June.
Unfortunately, any scheduled golfing events – including the prestigious Scone Race Club competition on May 9, which was moved to Muswellbrook – have had to be cancelled in the interim due to the delay in opening.
The $4 million project to reconstruct the course was required because the Scone bypass route goes through parts of the previous links, and was funded by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
Council thanks the Scone Golf Club members for their patience during construction, which began in late 2017.
