There could be 4 finals at the MCG in the first round

We’ve done some number crunching and it could create a scheduling nightmare for the AFL with four finals potentially having to be played at the MCG on the opening weekend of the finals series.

If the following results come through in Round 23 it will see four Melbourne based clubs host home finals:

  • Collingwood to beat Fremantle (at Optus Stadium)
  • Sydney to beat Hawthorn (at the SCG)
  • Melbourne to beat GWS (at the MCG)
  • Brisbane to beat West Coast (at the Gabba)

All of these sides call the MCG ‘home’, with no clear option to be moved to Etihad Stadium.

This could force the AFL schedule a Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon final at the MCG.
