Toro fleet at Wesley College

2016 marks 150 years since Wesley College first opened. Now with three campuses across Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, it is amongst the most well-known and respected schools in Victoria.

The Glen Waverley Campus is a spacious, sport-focused environment; boasting over 8 hectares of open fields for almost all sport codes, even an MCG length football oval for home games.

Grounds Manager Rob Savedra is not just passionate about his job, but also about Wesley College itself; having been a student there back in the day and now working to keep the outdoor areas in great shape, Rob shows a lot of love in what he does.

For Rob to continue to deliver the grounds of Wesley to their high standard for play, it’s paramount he has the right equipment for the job.

As a keen Toro customer through and through, when it came time to update and upgrade machinery for him and his team, Rob only had to look in one direction.

After getting in touch with Toro supplier Dawn Mowers, area manager Dan Condran headed out to the Glen Waverley campus with updated equipment for Rob and the team to try.

The new fleet consists of two Toro Workman Utility Vehicles, and a Toro Reelmaster 5510.

Toro’s new Reelmaster 5510 now comes with a built in computer InfoCenter™ System, making precision and control an absolute breeze for the user.

The on-board LCD display makes components like cutting units adjustments easier while on the job, the user can monitor reel performance and control the reel speed and clip rate.

The display also helps technicians with any repairs or maintenance, as it records system information alerts like fault codes, diagnostics and service reminders.

Dan said the InfoCenter™ display system is something Toro are implementing into their future products.

It also comes with Dual Precision Adjustment (DPA) cutting units, allowing quick bedknife to reel adjustment for the user.

The harder reel and bedknife steel retains a sharp edge up to three times longer in order to minimize the need and frequency of adjustments.

The Reelmaster is designed for the slightly unpredictable terrain of a golf course; where greenkeepers have to maintain undulating grounds and dipping bunkers.

Given the landscape of Wesley College is predominantly flat sports fields, Dan says their new machinery will really stand the tests of time, as the wear and tear won’t be as intense as some locations.

Wesley College were able to acquire the new Workman vehicles and Reelmaster using Toro Australia’s finance program; where companies and organisations can opt for a payment plan to control equipment costs and stabilise year to year budgets.

Toro Australia’s Business Manager, Laurence Bingham said Toro Finance is a great opportunity for councils and schools like Wesley College.

“It’s great to see Wesley were able to take advantage of the Toro Finance program to renew their equipment, it’s the perfect tool for schools, councils and businesses in general to be able to update their fleet when the time calls for it,” said Bingham.

Rob and his team couldn’t be happier with the new Toro additions.

Rob also remarked the significance of Toro celebrating their 100th year of service in 2014, as Wesley celebrated 150 years this April.

With a strong brand connection and happy customers, we’re sure Wesley College will be using equipment from Toro Australia by the time their respective 200th and 250th anniversaries roll around!
