It’s South Australia’s home of football and cricket but now the hallowed turf at Adelaide Oval has been transformed into a nine-hole golf course.
Two of the tee locations are on the ground level while the other seven come from the dizzying heights of the oval’s grandstands.Adelaide Oval has been transformed into a golf course. (9news)Players teed off on Monday for the first event of its kind in Australia. (9news)
“Hitting high above the stands down onto the playing surfaces is just not repeated anywhere else in the world, particularly not on golf courses,” organiser Nick Cutler says.
Players each take two shots per hole with the scoring format based on who can get nearest to the pin.
Organisers hope the faster format can be golf’s answer to Big Bash Cricket.
“You can get a round of golf in in 84 minutes. It’s quick, fast-paced, you’ve got a shot clock which is kind of unique, you’ve only got 60 seconds to hit your two shots,” Mr Cutler said.
