Bayside golfers have hit the hole in one with a significant upgrade of the Sandringham Golf Course to go ahead.
The re-elected Andrews Government committed $5.3 million towards stage two of the “Home of Golf” project under a last-minute election pledge.
Golf Victoria and Sandringham Golf Links Management will use the money to build a 350m driving range with a large chipping area, putting green and indoor training facilities.
The course will also be improved with upgraded bunkers, greens and tees, additional water storage and a new carpark.
Golfer Kathy Naoumidis, who learned how to play golf on the course, said she was looking forward to the new driving range and practice greens.
“(The upgrade) is really important because you would never practice there now,” Ms Naoumidis said.
“This is another step-up for the club, players will be able to access coaches and quality practice areas.
“These upgrades will help improve most golfer’s games.”
Ms Naoumidis, who lives close to the course, said she would probably use the course more often when the upgrade was finished.
