Week 10 saw me travel to a small town called Stanton.
Even though we were close to towns and cities like Bristol, standing in the paddock of H. Curtis and Sons where you over look all the hillsides and valleys you would swear there was nothing for miles.
Dave and I travelled to H. Curtis and Sons for the Grounds Care Show that they were putting on for all the local Contractors and Greenkeepers. Besides having our Campey machinery there they also had the likes of Branson and Kioti along with some other brands of machinery on display.
Week 10 was only short as all staff were based out of Head Office for 2 days.
Week 11 I travelled over to Mansfield to meet up with Simon Holland to spend a week with him visiting his customers. Every day was jammed packed. Simon was able to show me a variety of golf clubs and football fields/ stadiums in his area of the UK. We visited Ganton Golf Club, which was my first inland links course.
My next visit was to Leicester City FC training facility where I was able to catch up with Cal and Chris who I met on my trip to Holland. We then went to King Power Stadium for a quick look around. I enjoyed being able to see where Cal and Chris worked. They are both very proud of what they have set up and when you stand and talk with them you can visually see what they wish to achieve and have over the coming years.
We went and revisited Debdale Sports Facility, where we held the pitch renovation day a few weeks ago. The field is coming along nicely post renovation, we did another pass with the Vredo Super Compact seeder to help thicken up the grass sward. Despite the lack of water and the constant heat that we are currently going through, Chris has done wonders with trying to get as much water as possible onto the field.
We then called in to Nottingham Tennis Centre, they have grass courts and had just finished a tournament. It was great to see the courts after a tournament to see how they had held up and what they guys were doing for after care on the courts. It was also pointed out to me that both the men’s and women’s champions were both Australian!
Simon took me to Derby FC training facility and the main Stadium. We met up with Tom who I had previously met on my trip to Holland and Stadium Grounds Manager Nathan. Tom is very proud of his set up at the Training Facility, they are currently going through different stages of renovations and post renovations – which was good for me to view and experience. They were preparing their fields for players to return first week in July.
Hollinwell Golf Course, they are currently preparing for the final open qualifier and a week of a womens tournament. Hollinwell was a very nice course, it is set back of the main road and drive down just sets it all.
Over the weekend my housemates were keen to spend some time with me before I take off early Monday morning. We went to the arcade at the Trafford Centre, spent a day at the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet and a night by an aussie bonfire.
My final week with Campey’s will be spent down near London with Ben. Stay tuned to hear how it goes!!
