Tremendous support was received for the State Conference from industry partners and Trade exhibitors, particularly the Conference Principal Sponsors, the Green Life Group and Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Presentations, Workshops and Forums throughout the two days were themed to the three streams of Sport, Leisure and Parks, and provided delegates with plenty of new and practical ideas and methods to take back to their workplaces. There were 35 concurrent sessions and they were all well attended. Session topics were varied, and ranged from the Sport stream’s ‘How the rise of technology will shape the future of community sport’ to Leisure’s ‘Feasibility design and management of splash parks’ to Park’s ‘Transformation of Bourke Park, Pakenham’. The sessions were entertaining, varied and well presented.

Dr Bridie O’Donnell, Head, Office for Women in Sport and Recreation delivered the opening keynote address. Bridie provided an overview of the role of her agency and importance of partnerships with local government to further enhance the involvement of girls and women in sport and recreation.

The Urban Maintenance Systems Awards of Excellence Dinner was held during the evening of Day 1 of the conference and attracted 230 guests. It was a fitting way to celebrate the fifty award nominations received for the eleven categories from the Vic/ Tas Region. The nominations were all outstanding projects or events, and the winners exceptional. David Culbert entertained guests as the Dinner MC, and helped to cement the annual Awards Dinner as one of the sector’s highlights each year.
